Air Content of Pulp

Principle
The equipment is based on the BOADWAY method of expansion. A fixed volume of stock is isolated in a sample chamber under athmospheric pressure. Then a sudden vaccum of 50 cm Hg is applied to the sample. Then the air in the sample expands under vacuum. By measuring the increase of volume of the sample, the air content can be calculated using BOYLES law.

Application
The equipment was originally developed for the paper and pulp industry, but it can be used for any application where it is required to make accurate measurements of entrained gases in a liquid.

Within the paper industry the equipment has been used for measuring air contents at the paper head box, various parts of the approach flow system and in the white water circuit. Measurement of air in stock is important for determining the correct dosage of defoamers.

The equipment
TECHPAP Air tester is a compact handy equipment, delivered with a special ABS-case for transport.
The Air tester main frame is made of stainless steel. So it is very rigid and easy to clean. Feets can be dismantled for transport.
Sampling bottle and the measuring tube are fixed on the front side. They are made of special resistant PYREX glass, twice thicker than usual. To avoid schocks on these glass parts, 2 protections are fixed on each side of the frame.
On the front side you find also a high precision vacuum meter as well as clear printed operating instructions.
Technical parts, vacuum reservoir, piping and pulp connections are on the back side.
The vacuum handpump can be hanged in a free space, also on the back side, for transport.

Operation
After installation of the Air tester and connection of the pulp inlet and outlet, the operator has to sample, to measure and to calculate free air and bound air contents, as clearly described in the manual.
After series of tests, the Air tester has to be flushed with water. the design of the measuring tube allows you to clean it from inside with a long brush.

Accuracy
The TECHPAP Air Tester gives high accurate results. In the low range of air content, 0 to 1 % by volume, the equipment can measure to with + or - 0.01 %. for high range of air content, the accuracy is lower.
